Mrs. Broderick
I was born and raised along the shores of Lake Temiskaming. My pursuit of higher education brought me to Waterloo, completing a H.B.Sc. degree in Kinesiology at the University of Waterloo. Following that I worked in disability management and ergonomics as a Kinesiologist. I later pursued my childhood dream of becoming a teacher and acquired my B.Ed. at Brock University. I worked briefly for the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board prior to working for the Waterloo Region District School Board, where I have been teaching ever since. I am a Specialist in Health & Physical Education and in Special Education. My husband and I have two children. Maryn and Caleigh keep us on our toes!! Our family enjoys all things athletic and outdoors, with particular passions for hockey, fitness, lacrosse, volleyball and cycling. We also spend our free time at the lake.
Happiness and wealth are measured not by money; I believe they are defined by your connections to others, your mental wellness, your resilience and your physical health. Many of these factors we have some control over; so take control of your future. Happiness is yours to seize, but it takes work and self-discipline. Enjoy the journey of life, the wonderful places it can take you and moments you can forever cherish.
Laurelwood Public School is an amazing place to work. Our staff, students and community are motivated, hardworking and strive for excellence; all the while demonstrating compassion and understanding, making a real difference for others. Go Lightning Go!!!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Broderick

Mr. Morton
It is my pleasure to be teaching your son or daughter Health and Physical Education at Laurelwood Public School. A little bit about myself. I was born and raised in Peterborough, Ontario where hockey and lacrosse were a way of life for me growing up. I left home when I was 16 to persue a career in hockey. After a serious hip injury that would eventually lead to surgery, I decided to attend Brock University and persue a teaching career. I love coaching and working with children and knew this was the right path for me. I met my wife Karen, a Kitchener native and also a teacher with the W.R.D.S.B., at Brock University. After we finished University we made our way to Waterloo to start our teaching careers. I have taught for 24 years and have taught children from J.K./S.K. to grade 8. I feel very fortunate to have a job that I love and I look forward to coming to work everyday...(even for 7 a.m. practices)!!!! I have two awesome children Avery (18) and Ben (16) who make me laugh everyday. Spending time with my family is my favourite thing to do. My hobbies include spending time at our family cottage, athletics (playing and coaching hockey and lacrosse), golfing, and technology. I strongly believe all students need to take their health and wellness seriously. Good health habits, mentally and physically, need to develop now and will hopefully stay with them in the future. Three key factors that will determine student success in health and athletics at Laurelwood:
1. Give your best effort at all times. 2. Have a positive ATTITUDE & 3. Believe in YOURSELF (Practice Makes PROGRESS).
Have a great year!
Sincerely
R. Morton
