Gym Class
The primary focus is participation, using skill specific sports, games of low organization and fitness as the medium. Students come to gym class with different skill sets and experiences, so the focus is general skill improvement and fun.
Intramural Program
Laurelwood’s 7/8 intramural program is organized and run by the LACE committee. Teams are organized in a class versus class format, with the main focus of having fun with peers. The games selected for intramurals are usually games in which students need little or no experience to participate enjoyably.
Club Sports
At certain times thoughout the year, usually before and/or after school, Laurelwood’s Club program focuses on the further development of skills learned in gym class. With this extra practice and commitment students can test their skills against other schools in tournament play. In our club sports we focus on developing skills, equal participation, teamwork and lots of fun!!
Varsity Sports
This is the opportunity for the more highly skilled and more competitive players to tryout for Laurelwood teams. Only a select number of players play on the varsity teams and these players need to have a much higher commitment level to participate. The main focus is to help develop the skills of those student/athletes who may want to play secondary school sports.
